In my family homeschooling is defiantly the most unique and truly meaningful tradition that we take part in together every day. Starting when I was ten and my sisters eight and five my mother would read to us wonderful stories. We would then write and work together at the kitchen table. We would read to ourselves and with each other - every possible kind of book and tell our mother excitedly everything we had uncovered, and this is something we still do today.
Now with my youngest siblings learning alongside us, it is amazing to see what they have picked up from being with us as we learn every day. My three year old brother knows all the letters, colors and numbers, just from watching his bigger brother and sisters! Even our little two year old knows more than we think she does and she never fails to surprise us on a daily basis.
It is wonderful to know your family well by being with them every day and watching how they see the world and how they think. I don’t think a lot of traditionally educated families get to have this same experience. I am thankful every day for this wonderful gift my parents gave me and my siblings. They gave us an immense love of learning and most importantly, a tremendous love for each other.
